This nationally recognised MSMSS00017 Use high pressure water jetting equipment skill set reflects the skill requirements to safely and effectively use high pressure water jetting equipment under supervision. Students will learn to perform tasks in compliance with workplace safety procedures, assess risks, and maintain equipment, ensuring safe and effective water jetting operations in industrial and commercial settings This skill set is for members of a water jetting team who are not competent to operate independently and need to have basic competencies before working under supervision. This not only involves technical competence in high pressure water jetting but also requires safe operation at a worksite that is not familiar to the operator.

Graduates can progress to advanced qualifications in industrial maintenance, confined space operations, or specialist technical units within the MSM (Manufacturing and Services) training package.

Entry Requirements

  • Provide a government-issued photo identification (e.g. driver’s licence, passport) at the time of enrolment.
  • Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI). This is a mandatory requirement for issuing nationally recognised qualifications in Australia.
  • Complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Literacy (LLND) assessment at a minimum of Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 2 prior to course commencement. This assessment helps determine whether additional learning support is required to successfully complete the qualification.
  • Complete a Health and Fitness Declaration. Students are required to declare any medical condition(s) that may prevent or limit their ability to safely and fully participate in this course.

 

Student Responsibilities

  • Attend all scheduled training sessions and participate actively in practical and theory components.

  • Complete all required assessments, including knowledge quizzes, practical demonstrations, and workplace tasks.

  • Follow all safety instructions, workplace procedures, and trainer directions at all times.

  • Prepare and bring any required personal protective equipment (PPE) and documentation.

  • Notify the RTO promptly of any issues affecting attendance, assessment, or safety.

 

Practical Requirements

  • Demonstrate safe and competent operation of high-pressure water jetting equipment under supervision.

  • Conduct risk assessments and implement hazard controls before and during equipment use.

  • Perform pre-start, operation, and shut-down procedures on equipment according to manufacturer and workplace guidelines.

  • Maintain equipment and report any faults or incidents immediately.

  • Complete practical tasks in simulated or real workplace environments, meeting all competency standards.

 

Required attire for face-to-face training

Students must wear closed-toe safety boots, long pants, and high-visibility clothing. Required PPE, including gloves and safety glasses, must be worn during practical sessions.

This two-day day, 8h per day, face-to-face course combines theory and practical training delivered by experienced trainers with current industry knowledge. Students will gain the skills and knowledge required to safely operate high-pressure water jetting equipment in real or simulated workplace environments.

 

Training is delivered in two sections

  • Theory training and assessment – covering the principles, safety procedures, hazard identification, equipment operation, and risk management associated with high-pressure water jetting.

  • Practical training with demonstration and assessment – covering the principles, safety procedures, hazard identification, equipment operation, and risk management associated with high-pressure water jetting.

 

Assessment Methods

Assessment is conducted by qualified assessors using a combination of tools and methods, in accordance with the principles of assessment (fairness, flexibility, validity, reliability) and the rules of evidence (valid, sufficient, current, authentic). Students will be assessed as either Competent or Not Yet Competent based on their performance against the unit requirements. Assessment methods may include:

  • Direct observation of practical skills

  • Verbal questioning to assess underpinning knowledge

  • Written responses to theory-based questions

  • Portfolio evidence, including completed workplace documents or work samples

  • A combination of the above methods

 

Reassessment Information

If you are assessed as Not Yet Competent (NYC), you will have the opportunity to be reassessed. You may contact Host Safety and Training (RTO 40772) to arrange your reassessment. A reassessment fee may apply.

  • Reassessment will focus only on the part of the assessment that was not successfully completed.

  • Reassessment must be completed within 60 days of the original assessment.

  • If the 60-day period lapses, the full assessment may need to be repeated.

  • You will receive feedback and support to help you prepare for reassessment.

 

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT)

Host Safety and Training RTO (40772) offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for students who can demonstrate prior skills and experience relevant to the course outcomes. Students may also be eligible for Credit Transfer (CT) for unit of competency they have previously completed through another Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

RPL and CT applications are assessed individually in accordance with our RPL/CT Policy and the requirements of the training package.
