It also provides a pathway to further specialised training in industrial cleaning, confined space work, or high-risk equipment operation.
This course provides a foundation for further study in workplace safety, high-risk equipment operation, and industrial cleaning. Graduates can progress to advanced qualifications in industrial maintenance, confined space operations, or specialist technical units within the MSM (Manufacturing and Services) training package.

This two-day day, 8h per day, face-to-face course combines theory and practical training delivered by experienced trainers with current industry knowledge. Students will gain the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a drain cleaning system in real or simulated workplace environments.
Theory training and assessment – covering the principles, safety procedures, hazard identification, risk assessment, operational techniques, and maintenance requirements associated with operating a drain cleaning system.
Practical training with demonstration and assessment – covering the principles of safe operation, pre-start inspections, hazard identification, risk control, correct use of the drain cleaning system, equipment maintenance, and problem-solving in real or simulated workplace scenarios.
Assessment is conducted by qualified assessors using a combination of tools and methods, in accordance with the principles of assessment (fairness, flexibility, validity, reliability) and the rules of evidence (valid, sufficient, current, authentic). Students will be assessed as either Competent or Not Yet Competent based on their performance against the unit requirements. Assessment methods may include:
Direct observation of practical skills
Verbal questioning to assess underpinning knowledge
Written responses to theory-based questions
Portfolio evidence, including completed workplace documents or work samples
A combination of the above methods
If you are assessed as Not Yet Competent (NYC), you will have the opportunity to be reassessed. You may contact Host Safety and Training (RTO 40772) to arrange your reassessment. A reassessment fee may apply.
Reassessment will focus only on the part of the assessment that was not successfully completed.
Reassessment must be completed within 60 days of the original assessment.
If the 60-day period lapses, the full assessment may need to be repeated.
Host Safety and Training RTO (40772) offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for students who can demonstrate prior skills and experience relevant to the course outcomes. Students may also be eligible for Credit Transfer (CT) for unit of competency they have previously completed through another Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
RPL and CT applications are assessed individually in accordance with our RPL/CT Policy and the requirements of the training package.

Attend all scheduled training sessions and participate actively in practical and theory components.
Complete all required assessments, including knowledge quizzes, practical demonstrations, and workplace tasks.
Follow all safety instructions, workplace procedures, and trainer directions at all times.
Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) and appropriate work attire for practical sessions.
Notify the RTO promptly of any issues affecting attendance, assessment, or safety.
Demonstrate safe and competent operation of a drain cleaning system under supervision.
Conduct pre-start inspections and ensure all equipment is operational and safe to use.
Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement appropriate control measures during practical tasks.
Perform drain cleaning operations according to workplace procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
Complete equipment maintenance and report any faults or incidents immediately.
Apply problem-solving skills in simulated or real workplace scenarios to ensure effective and safe operations.
Students must wear closed-toe safety boots, long pants, and high-visibility clothing. Required PPE, including gloves and safety glasses, must be worn during practical sessions.
Students are expected to follow all safety instructions, actively participate in practical activities, and demonstrate safe work practices throughout the duration of the course. Practical activities may include:

Required attire for face-to-face training: Long pants, long-sleeved shirt, safety boots, safety glasses, and sun protection.
