Why ICAM Lead Investigator Training is Crucial

Safety is a critical aspect of every industry, especially in workplaces with a high potential for accidents and injury. One of the most effective ways to ensure that your workplace is safe is to investigate incidents thoroughly and impartially.

Used by some of the world’s largest companies across industries such as aviation, transport, mining, rail and construction ICAM is an investigative approach developed to help organisations investigate incidents thoroughly and identify all the possible causes so that effective corrective and preventative measures can be put in place.

  • It is a comprehensive, structured and proven approach that can be used to investigate any type of serious workplace incident.
  • It encourages the whole investigation team to collaborate, ensuring that all aspects of an incident are explored and understood.
  • Corrective actions can be implemented more quickly, resulting in a reduction in workplace incidents over time.

With HOST Safety and Training’s leading ICAM courses, you can be sure that you and your team are properly trained in this essential investigative technique. For more information about our courses, pricing and scheduling, or to book your place on one of our upcoming courses, contact us today!

What Are The Steps Of ICAM?

Rather than simply identifying the immediate cause, ICAM is a holistic investigation method that attempts to look deeper and identify the underlying factors that led to a workplace incident so that it can be addressed to prevent future reoccurrence.

The ICAM investigation process consists of six steps:

    1. Gathering and Preparing Evidence
    2. Identifying absent or failed defences that should have stopped the incident
    3. Identifying errors or violations made by personnel
    4. Identifying environmental factors and conditions that existed at time of the incident
    5. Identifying underlying organizational Factors
    6. Develop Recommendations
