This unit specifies the outcomes required to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding at the basic level, consisting of scaffolding work connected with the operation or use of modular or prefabricated scaffolds, cantilevered materials hoists with a maximum working load of 500kg, ropes and gin wheels, safety nets and static lines, and bracket scaffolds (tank and formwork) for licensing purposes. This unit covers the scope of work to plan the job, select and inspect the equipment, set up task, erect scaffold and scaffold equipment and dismantle scaffold and scaffold equipment. This unit is based upon the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work. Scaffolding work includes putting up, changing or taking down a temporary structure that is used to support a work platform, where a person or object could fall more than four metres. To perform basic scaffolding duties you need to have a Basic Scaffolding – SB high risk work licence. Basic scaffolding work includes:

modular or prefabricated scaffolds
cantilevered hoist with a maximum working load of 500 kg (materials only)
ropes
gin wheels
safety nets and static lines
bracket scaffolds (tank and formwork).

Entry Requirements

Minimum 18 years of age (Workplace Health and Safety requirement)
Provide three (3) forms of identification, click here to view valid documents.
The ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
As a minimum, Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills (or equivalent)
What to wear: Long trousers, long sleeve shirt, enclosed footwear (as a minimum)

Certifications

Participants who are deemed competent will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued by Australian Institute of Resources Training Pty Ltd (RTO #40772) trading as Host Safety and Training.
Applicants need to complete the online application for a new Queensland HRW Licence on the Worksafe QLD website. This must be done within 60 days of successfully completing the practical assessment. The application fee is $94.70 and payable at the time of your application.
Students should retain their AS1 and proof of payment as evidence that they can lawfully perform work in the relevant class of High Risk, pending a decision on your application. Where are courses held?

How long does training take?

The length of training will depend on the course itself. Some course require a few hours where others take between one and five business days to complete.

Do certifications and licences expire?

Some certifications do not have an expiry date, while others will expire in one – five years. However, this is dependent on the course.
